Our Story
In 1994, one couple’s deep desire to expand their family through adoption uncovered a need and birthed a passion. They took a unique approach to spread the word by renting a billboard in Dallas, Texas, stating their wish to adopt a baby.
Their innovative approach caught the attention of a reporter from the Dallas Morning News and soon their story was being shared across the country through numerous newspapers, radio stations, and television stations. The response was overwhelming, and they received more than 1,000 phone calls, most of which were from women experiencing unplanned and crisis pregnancies.
This proved to this couple that there was a greater need for support and resources for women and families facing unexpected pregnancies. They envisioned a confidential crisis hotline that people could call for information, counseling, and referrals to local pregnancy resources. They recognized the importance of providing a safe and supportive space for individuals to seek help during what can be a difficult time.
The American Pregnancy AssociationHelpline was founded on January 1, 1995. Since then, the Helpline has provided support, resources, and referrals to people all across America, as well as in more than 20 countries worldwide through internet and email access.
Their story is endearing: It shows how their love and desire to expand their family led them to recognize the needs of others in a similar situation. Their willingness to listen, support, and provide resources to those in need has made a significant impact on the lives of countless individuals and families. Their legacy continues to live on through the American Pregnancy Association, which is a testament to their compassion and commitment to helping others.
