Inadequate lubrication may require either more extensive foreplay during sexual relations or a treatment option such as a water-soluble lubricant.
What should I know about lubrication and condom use?
Lubrications make penetration easier and help prevent the condom from tearing. Some condoms come with lubrication. Water-based lubricants can be used with latex condoms. However, latex condoms may be weakened when used with oil-based lubricants.
The following are some lubricants that are NOT recommended for use with latex condoms:
- Baby oil
- Bag Balm®
- Body lotions
- Cold creams
- Cornhuskers® lubricant
- Massage and mineral oils
- Olive oil
- Peanut oil
- Petroleum jelly
- Shortening
- Sunflower oil
- Suntan lotions
